Ok we have had many people ask us about the advanced mode for the Asus EEE Laptop range of computers, So by popular demand we are going to give you some hints tips and tricks to achive a windows looking platform and the native look to the Debian / Xandros Operating system, getting rid of the big button standard style.

First start up the EEE Ultraportable, This should work with most of the range, the only one we dont know about is the new EEE HDD Version.
Then hold doen the CTRL plus the ALT and the t key together, this should produce the CLI (Command Line Interface)
Type the Following depressing enter after each.

    • sudo bash  (Redirects to the User setting)
    • apt-get update ( Updates the EEE with the files required)
    • apt-get install ksmserver kicker (runs the Application that will allow you to switch to the Advanced Mode)

  • Exit the console
  • Restart (should go to Easy Mode)
  • Press the power button once it has booted into Easy Mode (BIG Button version)
  • Select Full Desktop.
A simple and easy way to get Linux the way you want it.
